Scars - Surgical, traumatic and acne
A scar is a patch or line of tissue that remains after a wound has healed. When a wound occurs and there is a break in some of the tissue in the body, the body heals it by producing more of a protein called collagen.
Scars gradually become smoother and softer and will fade but it is unlikely they will ever disappear and depending on the severity and location of them can cause distress if unsightly or very visible.
Until now there were few options for stretch mark and scar treatments, but our fractional laser resurfacing technology has recently been cleared by the FDA (US Food and Drug Administration) for effective results in the removal of stretchmarks and scars. Ongoing clinical studies have shown that patients treated achieved an average improvement of between 51% and 75% in the appearance of their Stretch marks (Striae) or Scars.
The treatment is suitable for most skin types, and using fractional laser technology will help permanently reduce the appearance of the stretch marks and scars. Although fractional laser therapy is the only scar treatment recognised by the FDA as an effective solution for the treatment of stretch marks and scars, several laser therapy sessions may be required to fully remove scar tissue. Unfortunately, some keloid scars may not be suitable for treatment.
